Just a quick quirb on how noisy and/or annoying the Powerspell PE5 reel is. The noise is actually coming from the "docking system" aka the double anti-reverse dogs in the reel that ensure that you always get the right hook set whilst fighting big kingfish! Anyhow. *Perfect size hook for hatchery catfish that weigh between 3-5 lbs. my lip hook almost all the time unless your bait is very much desired by the fish **allabout.wiki/1004** It's very durable made from hardened steel, I believe. You can use it over and over. It never rusts in my tackle bag. I use a knot less snell with a 25 lb mono filament leader line from Kastking for this hook. Its point is very sharp and can easily land a thieving fish. We landed many catfish with this hook. Best purchased in packs of 25 which should last you throughout the season.*

    I keep things simple as well. Even with my slow pitch jig assist hooks I'll use just a triple uni for each hook and then double wrap the solid ring. I like the 100-250lb JM soft Kevlar cord with JM violent slow pitch hooks for lighter jigs and the 350lb JM Monster 16 PE assist cord with JM Monster jigging hooks on anything say 250g and up.

    @greatwhitesharkist That's fair enough. But, like I just posted above, is the lower max drag a slight issue you think ? Well, provided JM's claimed figures are true. Aluctenos is claiming 40 lbs on the Gorilla 12 and 45 lbs on the Gorilla 20. JM's figures are even more ridiculous. I believe there is a reason why Accurate doesn't publish their drag figures, well cos they are lower. I think going forward though, I am sure they will find a way to up their max drag to a competitive level.

  • @215fishspot
    @215fishspot 12 років тому

    @Rascallucci as the greatwhite dude said, it comes down to you and your skill. I think JM did two things better then the Accurate Boss guys: fixed the AR situation by adding dual docking and eliminate side load problems that crushed the right bearing. I like the BX2 but even with a single AR bearing I feel a bit ashamed to grab it when big fish are around. Alutecnos is a solid reel. Freespool while in strike and full isnt as well performing as the JM. I like the new Okuma makaira.

    @BuoyzToyz I suggest dropping some super gel glue on the half hitches. They dont tend to unravel but when they do the knot holds at the top. The proper way to enter the eye is through the front. When the hook pulls it is aligned properly. :)

    bakersystem, try a jigging rod in the 150g rating. I have built a Spinalrodscom 150 blank. It loads very well and parabolic. If you are looking for faster action there is a nice Smith WGJ 52M spiral that is sweet!

    Interesting. With so many jigging reels out there now, how would you you rate the different brands? I hear it seems the JM Power Spell is really the best there is out there and their claimed drag figures are frightening. I am also interested in how the Alutecnos Gorilla compares to the JM. Historically, I am more of an Accurate Boss guy. But, is the anti-reverse bearing really a huge issue as compared to the dogs? Plus it seems their max drag figures are a bit low these days.
